Dapim Transcends National, Ethnic, and Disciplinary Boundaries

New York, NY, Aug 31, 2010Dapim - Studies of the Shoah, a journal of the David and Fela Shapell Family Foundation, is a bilingual academic journal published annually by the Institute for Research on the Holocaust at the University of Haifa and the Ghetto Fighters House, with the generous assistance of the Shapell Family Foundation of Los Angles.

Published in Hebrew and English, this interdisciplinary publication promotes the study of the Holocaust and examines anti-Semitism through the lens of various disciplines and brings attention to this new research in Israel and around the world. Encompassing a range of academic areas, including history, anthropology, philosophy, literature, and jurisprudence, a recent issue showcased a discussion, "Anti-Semitism and Jewish-German Relations: A Retrospective from Israel" by Guy Meron, an article by Yaakov Borut, entitled "Austrians "Righteous among the Nations" during the Second World War, and Robert Krell's analysis of "The Challenges to Being a Child Survivor."

These topics reflect the goal of Dapim to promote research and study of the various aspects of the Holocaust and anti-Semitism and to create a platform, through which readers are informed of the most recent and innovative research done in the various fields and in different countries. As part of this agenda, the University's Institute for Holocaust Research and the Shapell Family Foundation encourage the publication of research done on contemporary issues, such as the phenomena of the "new" anti-Semitism and xenophobia in the world today, the treatment and adjustment of survivors in their old age, collective memory of the Holocaust.
