Led by ASUH Chair Arthur K. Wachtel, the municipalities of Haifa and San Francisco reaffirmed their special “Sister-City” relationship with a week’s worth of events in the Bay area.
Wachtel, Chair of the San Francisco-Haifa Sister City Committee, helped arrange high-level meetings and public events with the mayors of the two coastal cities. Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav flew to San Francisco for the festivities and was warmly received by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
The visit focused on joint efforts for conducting business, trade, scientific, academic, and cultural exchanges. Wachtel, a Bay-area native, is excited to see the rejuvenation of the Sister-City relationship and the positive impact it can have on the University of Haifa.
“There are many wonderful cultural similarities between the two communities, which is to say nothing of the incredible potential partnerships between the University of Haifa and academic institutions in San Francisco,” says Wachtel (pictured at left with Mayors Yahav-middle and Newsome-right). “I look forward to seeing these bonds become stronger.”
