Dr. Sharon Nazarian, whose philanthropic philosophy is focused on education and public policy, has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of the American Society of the University of Haifa.
Dr. Nazarian, serves as president of the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Family Foundation which supports educational initiatives through a range of academic, public policy, and community-based social and artistic programs.
In 2012 the University of Haifa dedicated a new, state-of-the-art central wing of the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Library and is renovating existing facilities thanks to a generous gift from the Foundation. The library is named after her parents. With over two million books and electronic research titles, it is the largest academic library in Israel.
Dr. Nazarian currently teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of California Los Angeles in the Department of Political Science. She is also the founder of the Younes & Soraya Nazarian Center for Israel Studies at UCLA and Chair of its Advisory Board. The Center is housed in the International Institute at UCLA in order to provide a systematic and academic study of Israel.
Her undergraduate studies took place at the University of Southern California, double majoring in Journalism and International Relations. She went on to receive her Master’s and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees also from the University of Southern California in the field of Political Science, specializing in Political Economy and Economic Development in newly industrialized countries.
