On January 25th, at the American Society of the University of Haifa’s first ever event in Phoenix, two dozen people gathered at the residence of Shira Schwartz to hear from Dr. Maya Beinish-Weisman.

Dr. Benish-Weisman is an Assistant Professor at the University of Haifa in the Department of Counseling and Human Development.  She who was on sabbatical at the University of California-Berkeley as a visiting scholar at the Graduate School of Education. She spoke about her research with children and how many various factors affect their success in the classroom.

Dr. Benish-Weisman answered many questions concerning the tremendous student diversity at the University – in fact, the student population at the University of Haifa is the most diverse of any school in Israel –  and students’ coexistence.  She also addressed questions regarding the cost of tuition at the University, as well as specifics about her research.

This was a first meeting to help connect the Phoenix Jewish community to projects and issues of education in Israel. Participants were invited to attend future gatherings in Phoenix.
