The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Library has recently launched two important initiatives.
The first is an exhibition commemorating the centenary of the beginning of the First World War, Between the Trenches. The exhibition displays items collected from family members of our faculty and other materials from the Library’s own archives.
Displayed at the entrance of the Nazarian Library, the exhibit is the result of a collaboration between the University of Haifa’s School of the Arts, School of History and the Library.
The second initiative, launched in late November, is the Corporal Album website. This website, located at http://lib.haifa.ac.il/collections/corporal/index.php/p1 contains a unique and rare photo album of 142 black-and-white photos that depict life in the Land of Israel during the tumultuous years of the Arab Revolt, 1937-38.
The Corporal Album website includes the entire original album, which was digitally preserved by the Nazarian Library. It was presented to the public on the website alongside explanations about the historical and geographical background of each photo. The album is a fascinating visual depiction of the cultural backdrop of the Land of Israel at the time, especially the Galilee and the Northern part of the country.
