Professor Alfred Tauber, a distinguished physician and expert on medical ethics, was appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Haifa at its annual meeting in early June. He will officially resume his responsibilities in October.
Professor Tauber will be succeeding Mr. Leon Charney, who served with vision and distinction as the Chairman of the Board for the last six years.
Professor Tauber expressed his pride in taking on a leadership position in a university that creates such an academically outstanding, tolerant and multi-cultural learning experience.
“The unique geographic location and cultural diversity that make up the University of Haifa are its strengths,” Professor Tauber said. “They give it the opportunity to be an important and central contributor to Israeli society. Excellence is a value we should always strive for– and that value is imprinted in the University of Haifa”.
Professor Tauber is the Zoltan Kohn Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Boston University. From 1993 to 2010 he served as Director of the Boston University Center for Philosophy and History of Science. A current member of the Board of Governors, Professor Tauber was honored with Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa from University of Haifa in 2011.
University of Haifa President Amos Shapira warmly congratulated Professor Tauber. “We are happy to have you join our University’s leading team and we are proud to share with you our mutual vision of the University’s future. I am confident that if we combine forces, we could make our vision a reality”.
