University of Haifa gives science a funny face.
UH hosted the first international clowning seminar, which concluded July 20. The University of Haifa offers the world’s only undergraduate program for medical clowning.
The program, housed in the University’s Graduate School of Creative Art Therapies, has attracted international attention. Individuals from North America, Australia, and Europe attended the seminar last week. Founder of New York City’s Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit, Michael Christensen, was among those participating.
Clown therapy has become a research-backed healthcare discipline, used to facilitate pain relief, stress reduction and enhanced immunity. The Israeli program, Dream Doctors, has incorporated clown therapy into standard medical treatment.
