PROFESSOR DORON CHELOUCHE is an Associate Professor of Physics and Vice Dean of Research in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Haifa, the Director of the Haifa Center for Theoretical Physics & Astrophysics (HCTPA), and a founding member of the University’s Data Science Research Center.
Professor Doron is currently studying the most extreme physical objects in the universe: black holes. In particular, he is leading a unique project to map the immediate environs of super-massive black holes, aiming to understand the properties of such objects out to the edge of the observable universe. His research has been supported by NASA, the European Union (via a Marie-Curie Fellowship), the Israeli Committee for Planning and Budgeting, and the German Research Foundation. He has recently received funding from the Israeli Science Foundation to construct a first of its kind research telescope, which will be located in the Negev desert near Mitzpe Ramon.
